How Vault Determines Output Language

Harvey determines response language using a structured hierarchy depending on the type of interaction:

For Column Queries (when you write a prompt)

  1. Language explicitly specified in the prompt
    1. Example: “Respond to this lease termination agreement in Swedish.” Harvey will respond in Swedish.
  2. Language used in the prompt
    1. If no language is specified, Harvey uses the language your query was written in.
      1. If that language matches your user profile’s dialect, the response will follow that dialect. Example: If your prompt is in English and your profile is set to British English, the output will be in British English.

For Vault Workflows (when no prompt is written)

  1. User profile language – Responses will be generated in the language set in your Harvey profile.
  2. American English – This is used as a fallback if no language is set in your profile.

How to Set or Update Language Preferences

Vault Review’s localization depends on your profile settings. Here’s how to make sure those are configured correctly.

Option 1: During Initial Onboarding

  1. When logging into Harvey for the first time, complete the onboarding prompts.
  2. Use the Language dropdown to choose your preferred language and dialect. [If you skip this step, the default will be English (American)].

You can update your language preference anytime:

  2. Under Profile, select your preferred language from the dropdown.
