Overview
With Agentic Vault Search, you can now attach one or more full Vaults to your query (or work in a Space with Vaults already attached) and ask your question directly. Harvey browses your Vault folders, searches by file name and content, looks at document metadata, and narrows down to the relevant files. Harvey then reads the relevant portions of each document it finds and generates a response with citations back to the specific files.
How to Use
- Go to Assistant, or go to a Space with a Vault attached.
- Select Files and scroll to your list of Vaults.
- Toggle on one or more Vaults to attach them to your query.
- Ask a question or make a request. For example: "Draft a memo summarizing all change-of-control provisions across these contracts."
Harvey searches across all attached Vaults to find relevant documents. After Harvey responds, you can view citations pointing back to the specific files and pages that were used. Additionally, you can open the side panel to see exactly which files and folders were accessed, grouped by Vault.
Notes & Limitations
- Uploading a single file directly to a conversation, without attaching an entire Vault, works the same as it does today.
- You can currently toggle on up to 2 vaults to an Assistant query.
- Vaults with more than 10,000 files will still require you to first select specific files.
- The agent operates with the same Vault permissions (VIEW, EDIT, FULL_ACCESS) as the user asking the question.
- Harvey reads text extracted during upload processing. For most documents this matches the original exactly, but heavily formatted PDFs or scanned documents with OCR issues may read slightly differently than what you see in the original file.
FAQs
Q: Can I attach more than one Vault to a single query?
Yes. Attach multiple Vaults to a single query or Space, and Harvey's agent searches across all of them.
Q: How large a Vault can Agentic Vault Search handle?
It's designed for Vaults containing tens of thousands of files. You currently cannot attach full vaults if they contain more than 10,000 files, but we are working on lifting this limit soon.
Q: Does the agent ever see files I don't have permission to view?
No. The agent operates with your existing Vault permissions and respects your firm's ethical walls. It can only see Vaults and files you're already permitted to view.
Q: Is agent file access logged?
Yes. All agent file access is recorded in your workspace's audit trail.
