Overview

Harvey has integrated DeepL as our translation provider for the Translate Into Another Language workflow in web, as well as the Translate screen in Harvey for Word. This integration improves translation quality across a wider range of languages, giving you more accurate, consistent results for the languages you rely on.

Key Concepts

How DeepL works in Harvey

When DeepL is enabled for your workspace, all translation requests in the Translate Into Another Language workflow in web and Translate screen in Harvey for Word are routed to DeepL.

Harvey detects the source language automatically, so you only need to select the target language. If DeepL encounters an error, you will see a translation failure message.

Current Capabilities

Supported languages

DeepL covers the languages Harvey currently supports, but its document API does not cover every language. Some Harvey-supported languages, including Cantonese, Hindi, and Tamil, are not available and will return a translation failure if selected as the target language. DeepL's extended language set and DeepL Write (style and grammar improvement) are not included in this integration.

Document size

Very large documents may time out during processing. If a translation takes longer than approximately 10 minutes, the request will fail. Consider splitting very large files into smaller sections before submitting.

Tips for Success

  • Verify that your source and target languages differ. Submitting a document where the source and target language are the same will result in a translation failure.
  • Break up very large documents. If a file is likely to be lengthy to process, split it into smaller sections to avoid hitting the timeout threshold.
  • Check language support before submitting. If you're working with a less common language, confirm it's in DeepL's supported languages list first — unsupported languages return an error with no fallback.
