Overview

Harvey Assistant can now "see" images — whether they're embedded in documents or uploaded as stand-alone files. This means Harvey can read charts, graphs, and diagrams, pull data from tables in PDFs, and understand what an image shows without needing a caption or description to explain it.

Supported File Types

  • Images (PNG, JPEG, GIF, WEBP): Analyzed directly. Large images are automatically resized as needed.
  • PDFs: Harvey identifies the most relevant page based on your question — you don't need to specify a page number.
  • Other documents (DOCX, PPTX, etc.): Converted to PDF internally, then analyzed the same way.

Example Use Cases

  • Interpret org charts, ownership structures, and entity diagrams embedded in documents
  • Analyze land surveys, title maps, and property diagrams
  • Review patent drawings and technical illustrations
  • Compare trademark specimens visually
  • Extract and reason over data from charts, graphs, and tables in PDFs
  • Analyze visual evidence submitted as part of legal proceedings

How to Use

  1. Open Assistant.
  2. Upload a supported file.
  3. Enter your prompt asking Harvey for analysis.
  4. Review the response.

Notes and Limitations

Not Supported:

  • Image recognition in uploads to Vault Review Tables
  • Visual understanding of video files
  • Visual understanding of CAD files
  • Image generation or editing using Harvey (this will come later in Q2)

FAQs

Q: How long will Harvey take to process images?

Harvey analyzes one image or document page at a time. Due to the deeper analysis required, you may notice that response latency increases and it takes longer for Harvey to generate its final response.

Q: Will Harvey always analyze my image at full resolution?

For most images, yes. Very large files are automatically resized before analysis, which could occasionally affect fine detail in highly technical diagrams. If precision matters and you are not getting the results you need — for example, in a detailed patent drawing or survey map — consider cropping to the most relevant section before uploading.

Q: Will this change how my data is handled or which AI model is used?

No. Harvey uses the same AI models already configured for your workspace, so there's no change to your data handling, model preferences, or security settings.

Q: How do I opt-out of this image processing update?

If you’re an admin, contact your Success team for assistance opting out.
