Overview
The Harvey OpenAI Plugin connects ChatGPT and Codex to Harvey via Model Context Protocol (MCP), so you can ask Harvey a legal question, search a specialized research source, or query a Vault project from inside your OpenAI or Codex query. Harvey's user permissions and controls are enforced on every request, so you only see the Vault projects and Knowledge Sources you already have access to.
The plugin is built for quick questions and lightweight lookups. When a question grows into a larger task, continue it in the Harvey web app for advanced reasoning and work product refinement.
Key Features
- General Legal Queries: Ask Harvey a legal question grounded in its domain expertise and receive the answer in your chat.
- Knowledge Source Search: List the Knowledge Sources available to your account and ask questions against a specific one.
- Vault Lookups: List your Vault projects and ask questions about the documents in a specific project.

Enable the Harvey Plugin (ChatGPT Workspace Admins)
A ChatGPT workspace administrator must enable the Harvey plugin before your workspace’s users can install and use it:
- Open ChatGPT.
- Navigate to Admin → Plugins.
- Search for Harvey and install the plugin for your workspace.
How to Use
Connect your Harvey account
- In ChatGPT, select Plugins from the main navigation menu.
- Search for Harvey and select it.
- Select Install plugin and sign in with your Harvey account when prompted.
- Confirm the Harvey plugin is selected when you open a ChatGPT or Codex thread.
Ask Harvey a question
- Type a legal question in a ChatGPT or Codex conversation. Legal questions may route to Harvey automatically.
- To call Harvey explicitly, @Harvey in your query or select the + icon in the composer, search for Harvey, and select it before sending.
Example questions:
- "@Harvey What are the elements of a breach of contract claim?"
- "@Harvey What research databases can I search?"
- "@Harvey What is the HMRC guidance on capital gains for non-residents?"
- "@Harvey What Vault projects do I have access to?"
- "@Harvey Summarize the indemnification clauses in this Vault project"
Note: Vault questions run against one project at a time. If Harvey asks which project, list your Vault projects and name the one you want.
Notes & Limitations
- Pinpoint citations, Review Tables, and Workflow agents are not available in ChatGPT or Codex. Use the Harvey web application directly for that work.
- Harvey's MCP server is currently approved for select surfaces only. Support for additional systems is planned.
