Overview

Horizon Scanning is now available in Harvey, helping legal teams to stay informed about regulatory and legislative developments by continuously monitoring topics that matter to their work. Instead of manually tracking updates across multiple sources, you can now configure ongoing scans that surface relevant changes in one place and refresh hourly.

Key Features

  • Configurable scans: Set up ongoing scans scoped to specific topics, industries, and regions, and describe what you want to track in plain language or select coverage manually.
  • Centralized dashboard and weekly digest: View key updates across all your scans in one place, with a weekly digest that summarizes the most pressing alerts.
  • Ask Harvey about scans: Ask questions conversationally across a scan to summarize findings, identify patterns, and draft work product without switching tabs.
  • Sharing: Share scans with teammates for collaborative monitoring, with full editing or view-only access.

By bringing monitoring, analysis, and collaboration together in Harvey, Horizon Scanning will help teams respond to regulatory changes more efficiently.

How to Use

Create a scan

Anyone with access to Horizon Scanning can create a scan. There are two ways to build one:

Build Scans with Harvey

Build scan with natural language
  1. Navigate to the Horizon Scanning tab.
  2. In the upper right corner, select Create scan.
  3. In the Describe scan window, describe what you want to track in plain language. You can also select Improve to give Harvey more context.
  4. Select Continue. Harvey will build out the scan coverage by identifying and selecting jurisdictions, industries, topics and key source entities that fit your needs.
  5. Select Create.

  • Email notifications are currently a daily digest for your starred scans. More granular email controls are coming soon.
  • Scan data cannot yet be referenced from the main composer or elsewhere in Harvey. This is a current limitation being worked on.
  • Topics come from Harvey's taxonomy. Bespoke, custom topics are not yet available.

FAQs

What is the source coverage?
Horizon Scanning pulls from over 12,000 sources across 100+ jurisdictions, and this corpus is separate from Harvey's existing Knowledge Sources. Coverage will continue to expand over time.

How does Horizon Scanning differ from web search?
Horizon Scanning surfaces information that goes deeper than web search crawling, reaching nested content such as sub-links and nested tables through its specialized data vendor.

When should I set up a scan versus a scheduled agent?
Use a scan when your team wants granular, recurring updates on a routine topic that is not tied to a specific deliverable. Use a custom agent for specific, repeatable work product that does not need hourly information scoped in.

Are there security or data-processing implications?
There are no new subprocessors or changes to data processing. Only metadata such as jurisdictions and topics is sent externally; client documents, free-form queries and intent text, and project context remain within Harvey and its existing subprocessors.
