Improved Word Document Rendering
Word documents will open in a native previewer instead of being converted to PDF, so clause numbering, styling, and tracked changes appear exactly as they do in Word and citations point to the right clause.
What's Coming
Harvey will render .docx files natively instead of converting them to PDF first. The preview matches the real document, including nested clause numbering (1.a.i, 1.a.ii), text styling and tracked changes, and citations open the Word file and highlight the exact clause. This applies across Assistant, Vault and Workflows.

Native Word preview
- Preview the actual document: .docx files open in a native Word previewer with scroll and zoom rather than a converted PDF, so clause numbering, bold and underline styling and tracked changes display as they do in Word.
- Trust your pin cites: citations open the Word file and highlight the exact clause or text, with clause numbers that match the document. Useful for heavily numbered documents like credit agreements and redlines.
A direct path into editing
- Switch from preview to editing: an entry point at the top right of the viewer moves you into editing mode without prompting Harvey first, and you can switch back to preview anytime. Editing mode no longer shows a separate PDF preview alongside it.
FAQs
Q: Will this fix citation issues on documents I've already uploaded?
A: It applies to documents processed after rollout. Re-upload an older document to get the improved rendering and citations.
Q: Can I edit while previewing?
A: No. Preview mode is view-only with scroll and zoom. Use the edit entry point to switch into editing mode.
Q: Does this work with legacy .doc files?
A: No. Legacy .doc files continue on the PDF-preview path. In rare cases where a .docx can't render natively, it falls back to a PDF preview.
