Upcoming Feature
Retention Policy Configurations
Admins are getting a dedicated Retention policy page in Command Center — a single place to view and configure workspace, vault, and client matter retention settings with clearer controls and deletion estimates before any changes are saved. Retention changes that previously required a Harvey support request can now be made directly by your admins.
What’s Coming
The new Retention policy page gives admins a dedicated home to view and edit all retention settings in one place: Command Center -> Configurations -> Retention Policy. Changes come with deletion estimates so admins can see the impact before saving, and several legacy controls are being simplified. Every retention policy change is recorded in your audit log with the actor and timestamp.

Feature Highlights
- New Retention policy page for admins to view and edit all retention settings in one place
- Workspace retention sets the default for all data outside vaults
- New client matter retention table lets admins add, edit, or remove custom retention policies per matter. Client matter retention edits in Matters & Walls now redirect to this page.
- Deletion estimates shown before saving — admins see how many resources would become newly eligible for deletion before confirming any change, and must acknowledge that eligible data will be permanently deleted.
- Access is controlled by a dedicated Manage retention permission. It is on for the Admin role by default and can be restricted to specific admins or hidden entirely
- Vault deletion warning emails now go out 30, 7, and 1 day before deletion
FAQs
Q: What is the new Retention policy page?
A dedicated admin page, under Command Center → Configurations → Retention Policy, where admins can view and configure workspace retention and client matter retention settings — all in one place, with deletion estimates before any changes are saved.
Q: Who can access the Retention policy page?
Admins with the Manage retention permission. This permission is enabled for the Admin role by default. You can remove it from specific admins if you want retention managed by a smaller group. Managing the client matter retention table also requires the Manage client matters permission and client matters enabled for Vault.
Q: What are deletion estimates?
Before saving any retention change, admins see an estimate of resources that would become newly eligible for deletion.
Q: Does removing a client matter retention policy delete the matter?
No. Removing a custom retention policy restores the matter to default retention settings — it does not delete the client matter or its content.
Q: Can I still set client matter retention from Matters & Walls?
Retention settings for existing client matters have moved to the Retention policy page. Opening retention from Matters & Walls redirects you there. Setting retention while creating a new client matter is unchanged.
Q: Are retention changes logged?
Yes. Workspace, vault, and client matter retention changes are recorded as dedicated events in the audit log and available through the audit log API and in the Audit Log Command Center Page.
Q: Will I be notified before data is deleted?
Vault owners receive email warnings 30, 7, and 1 day before a vault is deleted under the retention policy.
