Upcoming Feature
Updated Spaces
Spaces is being rebuilt as the central home for all of a lawyer's work on a matter — with matter context that grounds every query automatically, tasks that keep work organized and tracked, and a notifications hub that surfaces everything needing attention, all in one governed place.
Note: Pilot workspaces created on or after August 27 include Early Access to every feature here except Tasks, which has an Early Access ETA of September 14.
What's Coming
Spaces will soon be the home for everything on a matter — documents, queries, agent outputs, the people working on it, and the work itself. Law firms can associate a Space with a client matter number, and ethical walls and access controls apply automatically to everything inside. A new matter selector on the Homepage composer lets users pick their matter and attach its full context to any query instantly.
Tasks close the loop on collaboration, keeping the request, documents, discussion, and status in one place.
A new notifications hub will make it easier to keep track of work across Spaces. Task assignments, status updates, comments, and @mentions will appear in one place, with an unread badge and links directly to the relevant task or artifact. Email notifications will continue for key updates, so lawyers can quickly see what needs attention without chasing work across Spaces and inbox threads.
Space Context lets admins capture the parties, background, goals, and standing instructions for a matter once, directly in the Space. Harvey automatically uses this shared context in every query and agent run started from the Space, helping responses stay grounded in the matter without users repeating the same framing each time. Everyone in the Space can view the context, while admins can update it as the matter evolves.

FAQs
Q: Do I need to have a client matter number (CM#) enabled to use this?
No. Law firms with CM# enabled can associate a space with a specific matter. Firms without CM#, and in-house teams, can still use a space as a general project workspace — CM# association is optional.
Q: If I already have queries or files tagged with a CM#, will they automatically show up in the matching space?
No. Existing CM#-tagged content isn't automatically pulled into a space. Only new activity done inside the space going forward is scoped to it, so there's a bit of a line between work done before and after a space exists for a matter.
Q: Can I keep my work private while still working inside a shared matter space?
Yes. Any query made in a space defaults to Private (only you). You can choose to share it Internally (all internal members) or Externally (all members, including outside collaborators) when you're ready.
Q: Will ethical walls be enforced automatically for these spaces?
Ethical walls require an integration with the relevant walls provider - either Intapp or iManage SPM. Once enabled, ethical walls are enforced for the space and its resources based on that matter's wall configuration. Spaces without a CM# (e.g., internal-only or precedent spaces) will still filter any content that has a client matter based on who is viewing the space.
Q: Can an admin change which CM# a space is associated with?
Yes. Admins can edit a space's CM# association from the admin panel.
Q: Does this replace Vault?
No. Vault and Spaces remain separate. Spaces are collaboration containers that hold people, context, agents, etc. Vaults just holds files.
We can acknowledge that people often use vaults for this collaboration purpose, but spaces are far more powerful because you can also add playbooks, agents, multiple vaults, etc.
Q: Who can create and update tasks in a Space?
Any member of a Space can create a task and update its status. Tasks move through four stages — to-do, in progress, done, and cancelled — and anyone in the Space can move them along.
Q: What can be attached to a task?
Tasks support an optional description, a human assignee, and attached artifacts like documents being reviewed. Every task also keeps a full activity log of creation, assignment changes, and status updates.
Q: How do task notifications work?
Assignees and task creators receive email notifications when a task is assigned, when its status changes, or when someone comments on it.
Q: Is Space Context optional?
Yes. It is empty by default. If no Space Context is saved, Harvey will still run your query over the Vaults, Agents, and other resources in the space.
Q: Can I update Space Context after it is saved?
Yes. A creating-side admin can edit or clear it in Customize → Space Context. Start a new Assistant thread to use the updated version.
