Enable Harvey for Slack for Your Workspace

Learn how to enable the Harvey for Slack app for your workspace, how to enable Slack as a knowledge source in Harvey, and how to remove Harvey from Slack.

Overview

As a workspace admin, you can connect Slack to your Harvey workspace by enabling the Harvey for Slack app. Once enabled, your team can message @Harvey in Slack channels or direct messages, and users can add Slack as a knowledge source in their Harvey queries.

This guide covers how to enable the Harvey for Slack app, how to enable Slack as a knowledge source in Harvey, and how to remove Harvey from Slack.


Before You Begin

In order to enable Slack for your workspace, the following must be true:

  • You are an admin in your Harvey workspace.
  • You have permission in Slack to install apps into your workspace (being a Slack admin is not required, but some Slack workspaces require app approval by a Slack admin).

How To Enable the Harvey for Slack App

  1. Navigate to Command Center → Configurations → Ecosystem.
  2. Locate Harvey for Slack and enable the Slack integration.
  3. Select Connect to Slack.

  4. In the popover that opens, select Connect to Slack.

  5. From here, select View users to control which users should be permitted to message @Harvey in Slack.
  6. You'll be taken to Slack's authorization screen. Review the requested permissions and select Allow to install the Harvey app in your Slack workspace.
  7. Invite @Harvey to the channels where your team wants to use it, or message the app directly.

Once set up, the Slack integration will show as connected in Command Center → Configurations → Ecosystem in your Harvey workspace.


How To Enable Slack As a Knowledge Source in Harvey

Slack must be enabled as an integration in your Harvey workspace before users can include it as a knowledge source within their queries.

  1. Go to Command Center → Configurations → Integrations.
  2. Locate Slack and select Add.
  3. Connect the API integration and complete the Slack connection process with Harvey.

Once enabled, Slack will appear as a knowledge source option for users when querying in Harvey.


Remove Harvey from Slack

Workspace admins can remove the Harvey app by following Slack's instructions for removing apps. Once removed, the app no longer has access to your Slack workspace.
