Beta Feature: Draft Mode in Assist - One Place for Prompting and Drafting
Understand how to draft directly in Assist.
Last updated: Jul 23, 2025
Access Note: This update is currently in beta. To enable it, your workspace admin can contact your Customer Success team or submit a Feature Access ticket.
Draft Mode has now been folded directly into Assist, giving you a single, streamlined workspace. Whether you want a quick answer or a full-length draft you can refine, start right in the Assist tab—then drop into Draft Mode only when you need deeper control.
Why We Merged Draft + Assist
- Simpler experience, more powerful – The thread now covers everything: generate a first draft, iterate in place, or ask questions about the draft.
- Fewer tabs, less decision making – The separate Draft tab is going away. All drafting features now live in Assist.
How to Draft in Assist
- Navigate to Assist from the homepage.
- Upload any reference documents you want Harvey to consider.
- Type your prompt—example: “Draft an engagement-letter template.”
- Click Ask Harvey and a response or draft will automatically be generated.
- To edit the output, open the draft editor in one of the following ways:
If Harvey creates a draft automatically, click anywhere on that preview.

Otherwise, click Open in editor under the response.

You’re now in the new draft editor view with assist on the left and draft editor on the right. Write direct revisions to the draft, get assistance from Harvey by asking a query in the assist panel on the left-hand side, or highlight text to describe the edits you want to make to that specific content. If you want to run a query, you’ll have 3 modes to choose from: Auto, Edit, or Answer.
- Auto: Harvey will decide whether to edit the draft or give you an answer based on your query
- Edit: Harvey will edit the draft based on your query
- Answer: Harvey will answer your query without making edits to the draft
Tip: No matter which mode you choose, you can always view the original draft in Version History, and track changes by selecting Show Edits.
