The Patent Research Knowledge Source brings official patent literature directly into Harvey, giving IP and patent litigation teams direct access to authoritative patent data. Official patent data is a critical requirement for these teams, and with this knowledge source they can complete core patent workflows in Harvey with insights grounded in authoritative sources.

Feature Highlights

  • Search without uploads: Query US patent applications and granted patents from Google Patents and other sources directly in Harvey instead of uploading individual patents one by one.
  • Prior art and invalidity: Ground prior art searches and invalidity assessments in official patent literature.
  • Competitive analysis: Compare patent filings across companies and technologies.

How to Use

Patent Research Knowledge Source in Harvey
  1. Draft your query.
  2. Select Sources, then choose Patent Research.
  3. [Optional] Select Set filters to narrow the scope of your search.
  4. Run your query.
  5. Check the Sources panel to confirm that patent data was cited.

Notes & Limitations

  • Coverage is limited to US patents. International and trademark data are not included, though you can reference worldwide applications to understand foreign counterpart cases.
  • The Patent Research knowledge source is built for targeted research, not exhaustive retrieval. Avoid open-ended trend analysis (for example, "summarize every US patent related to glass phone displays") and exhaustive ranking queries (for example, "identify the most-cited food packaging patent across all US patent history").
