Overview

The Harvey Outlook add-in brings AI-powered legal support directly into your inbox. Harvey can reason across multiple emails and their attachments, draft and edit replies for you to approve in one click, generate Word, PowerPoint, and Excel files in a thread, and keep your context as you move between reading and composing.

With full inbox search enabled, Harvey can also search across your entire mailbox to summarize or find emails, with citations and direct links.

How to Use the Harvey Outlook Add-In

Within an email, you can use Harvey to:

  • Ask about an open email: Harvey reads the message and its attachments to answer your question.
  • Reason across multiple emails and attachments: Summarize a set of messages or surface key takeaways and action items.
  • Continue in compose: Select Reply to open a compose window; Harvey carries over your conversation and context.
  • Draft and edit emails: Harvey writes directly into your Outlook draft, and you approve in one click.
  • Generate files: Ask Harvey to produce a Word, PowerPoint, or Excel file directly in the thread.
  • Take bulk actions: Multi-select emails to save them to a Vault project.
  • Apply writing styles: Match Harvey’s drafts to your preferred tone and voice.
  • Choose a model: Use the model selector to pick which model handles your Outlook query.
  • Connect Knowledge Sources: Bring in your organization’s document libraries, web search, and API connectors.
  • Revisit thread history: View previous Outlook add-in threads in the add-in or in your Web history (read-only).

Here are a few simple prompts to help you get started:

  • Summarize this email thread
  • Surface key action items for me in this email thread
  • Write me an email updating the client on key redlines in their contract
  • Do any of the attachments in this email answer the questions in my uploaded DDQ?
  • Draft a reply to this thread and generate a Word summary of the key points
  • Summarize my most recent emails from this sender [requires full inbox search]
  • Find the email from opposing counsel about the closing date [requires full inbox search]

You can also use Harvey’s suggested workflows for quick actions, such as Send to Vault project, or multi-select multiple emails to send or organize them in bulk.

Full Inbox Search (Optional)

If your workspace administrator enables full inbox search, Harvey can search across your entire Outlook mailbox (not just the open thread) to summarize recent emails, surface takeaways, or find a specific email by its contents or sender. Results include citations with direct links to the source emails. Full inbox search works only for native Outlook / Microsoft 365 mailboxes.

Admins can refer to **Enable the Harvey Outlook Add-In in Your Workspace** for details on enabling full inbox search.
