Harvey for Slack: How to Use

Overview

The Harvey for Slack integration lets you use Harvey directly inside Slack, allowing you to get answers, review documents, kick off drafting and more within your Slack channels and threads. You can also use Slack as a knowledge source within your queries in the Harvey web app, pulling context from Slack into your drafting and research.

This guide explains how to connect Harvey to your Slack account, message @Harvey, save Slack messages to Vault, share conversations with your team, and continue your work in the Harvey web app.

Before You Start

• Ensure that your workspace admin has enabled the Harvey for Slack integration for your workspace. Admins can refer to Enable Harvey for Slack for Your Workspace for more details.
• Confirm with your workspace admin that they have given you access to Harvey for Slack.

Connect Your Harvey Account To Slack

Once your workspace admin has installed the Harvey for Slack integration, you can connect your Harvey account to Slack. You'll be prompted to connect for the first time when:

• You message @Harvey for the first time in a DM or channel, or
• A teammate shares a Harvey thread with you in a channel you're both in.

In both of these cases, you’ll see the following message:

To connect, select the Link your Harvey account message and follow the authorization steps. After linking, you can message Harvey right away.

Message @Harvey in Slack

Start a Harvey conversation by DMing the app or mentioning @Harvey in a Slack channel. You can also include files within your message to Harvey.

1. In a Slack channel or DM, type @Harvey followed by your question or request.

   1. To have Harvey review a document, attach the file to your message.
2. Send the message. Harvey replies in the same thread.

Harvey can also generate files directly in Slack, so you can download the file without leaving the conversation.

Example Requests:

• Attach an NDA and ask: @harvey Flag anything unusual in this NDA vs. market standard.
• Attach a redlined document and ask: @harvey Draft a message that summarizes the issues with these redlines.
• Attach a document and ask: @harvey Make a 3-slide PowerPoint deck summarizing this file.

Save a Slack Message or Thread to Vault

Save an important Slack message or thread, along with its attachments, to Vault. This is useful for preserving a negotiation thread or a message that links to a contract.

1. Hover over the Slack message or thread you want to save.
2. Select the ellipsis menu, then choose Connect to apps.
3. Select More message shortcuts.
4. Select Save to Vault.
5. Select the relevant Vault project and Folder, then select Save.

Share a Harvey Conversation with Your Team

When you start a conversation with @Harvey in a channel or group DM, Harvey prompts you to share it with the other people in that Slack conversation who have Harvey accounts. Sharing lets those teammates open the underlying Harvey conversation and read it.

Use Slack as a Knowledge Source In Harvey

When querying in Harvey, you can attach Slack as a knowledge source in order to pull context from your Slack channels or threads into Harvey’s response.

1. Open Harvey and start a new query or workflow
2. Navigate to the Sources panel.
3. Select Slack as a Knowledge Source.

   1. Optional: Combine it with other sources, such as your uploaded documents or internal knowledge.
4. Enter your query.
5. Review the response. Harvey incorporates Slack content to provide relevant insights.

Example Queries:

• "Summarize the current state of the Acme negotiation using #deal-acme, and draft the internal approval note for the non-standard terms sales agreed to.”
• "Draft a launch-readiness checklist for [Project Falcon]. Use the #product-launch and #eng channels to identify open privacy, IP, and regulatory questions, and mark each as resolved or outstanding with a link to the deciding message."
• "Assemble a chronological incident timeline from #security-incident, then tell me which regulatory notification clocks (GDPR 72-hour, state breach laws) are triggered and when they started running.”
